Monday Night Football Preview: Week 6 Picks

Primetime in the NFL is where edges tighten and details matter. We’re attacking tonight with a two-play card: one total, one side—both built on matchup realities that repeat. We’ll start with the total, then finish with the Top Play of the Night.

Total Pick: Bills–Falcons Under 48.5 (Confidence: Medium-High)
This number is more about reputation than environment. Buffalo can score, but Atlanta’s defense is elite at suppressing explosives and forcing opponents into long drives. That’s fewer possessions, lower play counts, and a premium on red-zone execution. The cross-conference angle has leaned under versus Atlanta because the Falcons sit in coverage shells and rally to the ball; they trade chunk plays for patience, and patience burns clock. Buffalo can absolutely move it, but they’re just as willing to run if safeties stay high. Add the Falcons’ methodical offensive approach and you get a game script where 21–20 or 24–20 is live. Key notes:

  • Falcons defense: top-tier by yards allowed; limits explosives.

  • Pace: longer drives, fewer possessions.

  • Red zone: both teams capable of forcing field goals.
    Play: Under 48.5.

Side Pick (Top Play of the Night): Commanders -4.5 vs Bears (Confidence: High)
This is the clearest edge on the slate. Washington’s run game ranks #2 by our sheet, and that travels to every down and distance. When you consistently win first down, you protect your quarterback, stay ahead of the sticks, and build a red-zone menu that keeps the defense guessing. Chicago’s defense has lived at the wrong end of those scripts—near the bottom in rushing yards allowed and prone to missed tackles and coverage busts when they’re forced to defend both the perimeter run and play-action. Washington’s home form enhances the edge: the Commanders have stacked covers and straight-up wins in this building, and their October trend has been strong.

What pushes this into “High” confidence is the hidden-yardage calculus. Washington is built to generate short fields through a combination of run-game success, manageable third downs, and a defense that can reset possession at midfield. The Bears, by contrast, too often face long fields; even if they move it between the 20s, stalling once or twice flips the cover math under a touchdown. Under -7, we’re asking Washington to execute what they already do well and close with four-minute offense. That’s the profile you want at home.
