Coach Bob’s NFL Week 8 Picks Against the Spread

Week 8 is here, and this is where disciplined bettors separate from the crowd. The public loves flashy offenses and highlight reels — but smart handicappers know it’s about numbers, trends, and consistency. We’re halfway through the season, and the data is clear: defense, balance, and situational football are what cover spreads.

This week, I’ve locked in four ATS plays that check all those boxes. Three are solid value spots, and one is our Top Play of the Week — a totals bet built around two teams heading in opposite directions.

Let’s break it down.

#4: Philadelphia Eagles -7 vs New York Giants

Line: Eagles -7
The NFC East gets another primetime-style matchup, and Philadelphia continues to be one of the league’s most efficient teams in the trenches. The Eagles rank top-10 in rushing efficiency and early-down success rate, while the Giants sit near the bottom in both offense and defense.

Trends to know:

  • Philadelphia is 14-6 ATS in its last 20 overall.

  • The Eagles have won 12 straight home games against the Giants.

  • New York is 3-16 straight-up in its last 19 games.

The Eagles’ defensive front should dominate, forcing New York into third-and-long situations all night. With a +12 home scoring margin and a matchup edge in the trenches, this feels like a 27–14 type of game that stays comfortably within the number.

Pick: Eagles -7

#3: Buccaneers at Saints — Under 47.5

Line: Total 47.5
The Bucs and Saints know each other too well for this to be a shootout. These division matchups are usually tight, physical, and defined by defensive execution.

Key numbers:

  • The Saints are 1-10 SU in their last 11 games.

  • Six of the Saints’ last seven home games have gone Under.

  • Tampa Bay ranks 12th in total offense and 14th in total defense, while New Orleans sits 24th in offense and 18th in defense.

The Bucs’ defense is strong enough to keep New Orleans under control, and their balanced offense plays slower when they lead. Expect a tempo-driven game, a few red-zone stalls, and an Under that cashes with breathing room.

Projected Score: Buccaneers 27, Saints 17
Pick: Under 47.5

#2: Atlanta Falcons -7.5 vs Miami Dolphins

Line: Falcons -7.5
Atlanta is one of the few teams that truly checks both boxes — #2 in total offense and #1 in total defense. That’s rare balance, and it’s showing up in their results. Miami, meanwhile, ranks 27th on offense and 30th on defense, allowing over 380 yards per game.

The Falcons’ efficiency on both sides of the ball allows them to dictate tempo, dominate possession, and avoid big mistakes. Miami simply can’t keep pace on sustained drives, and their third-down defense is one of the worst in the league.

Trends:

  • Miami is 1-7 SU in its last 8.

  • Atlanta has covered 4 of its last 6 overall.

  • Miami’s defense has allowed 30+ points in 3 of its last 4.

Everything here points toward a steady, methodical cover.

Projected Score: Falcons 27, Dolphins 13
Pick: Falcons -7.5

#1: Top Play of the Week — Falcons vs Dolphins Under 44.5

Line: Total 44.5
This is the most complete play on the board — a numbers-based total that lines up perfectly with team identity and matchup history.

Atlanta’s defense is elite — #1 in total yards allowed, #1 against the pass, and holding opponents to under 18 points per game. The Falcons slow pace and control time of possession, ranking top-five in drive length and plays per drive.

Miami’s offense is the opposite. Ranked #27 overall, the Dolphins struggle with rhythm, red-zone finishing, and protection. On the defensive side, they’re #30 in total yards allowed and routinely give up long drives that chew up the clock.

The result? Limited possessions, fewer explosive plays, and both teams relying on field goals instead of touchdowns.

Trends:

  • The total has gone Under in 6 of Miami’s last 8 home games.

  • Atlanta has gone Under in 7 of its last 9 games vs AFC opponents.

Everything about this matchup screams control — not chaos.

Projected Score: Falcons 27, Dolphins 13
Pick: Under 44.5 (Top Play of the Week)
