NFL Week 12: Coach Bob’s Top 4 Picks Against the Spread

NFL Week 12: Coach Bob’s Top 4 Picks Against the Spread

Week 12 is here, and this is the point in the season where the margins tighten, the contenders separate, and the value starts showing up in spots the public tends to overlook. I’ve gone through every matchup on the board, every defensive ranking, every ATS trend, and these four plays stand out above the rest. Two totals, two spreads, and one absolute mismatch that earns the title of our Top Play of the Week.

Let’s get into it.

#4 – Jacksonville Jaguars / Arizona Cardinals – Over 47.5

The first play on our list is one that jumps off the screen when you compare scoring pace, defensive rankings, and home/road splits. Both Jacksonville and Arizona are built for track meets right now, and the numbers back it up.

Key Stats & Trends:
• Jacksonville road Overs: 5 straight
• Arizona home Overs: 7 of last 8
• Both defenses bottom-third in explosive plays allowed
• Both offenses rank top-12 in pace of play

These are two teams that struggle to stop anyone for four quarters. Jacksonville gives up big passing yards, and Arizona allows chunk plays on the ground and through the air. Combine that with both offenses pushing tempo and taking downfield shots, and you get a game that tends to break open late.

Plain English?
This game has all the ingredients of a 27–24 or 30–27 type matchup. Turnovers become scoring chances, three-and-outs lead to quick possessions, and both quarterbacks have the mobility to extend drives.

Over 47.5 is the play.

#3 – New York Jets / Baltimore Ravens – Over 44.5

If you’re just glancing at the scoreboard rankings, you might miss how strong this Over spot is. But when you dig into the situational trends, it’s one of the cleanest totals on the board.

Key Stats & Trends:
• Jets road Overs: 6 of last 7
• Ravens home Overs: 4 of last 5
• Ravens defense bottom-10 in yards allowed
• Jets defense bottom-five in points allowed

These teams bleed points in very specific situations. The Jets are one of the worst road defenses in football, giving up explosive plays in the secondary. The Ravens score early and often at home, averaging nearly 30 points in Baltimore.

Baltimore should get theirs, but the Jets put up points too when they’re chasing late. Garbage time matters, and this matchup has it baked in.

Over 44.5 — cleanest total of the week.

#2 – Los Angeles Rams -6.5

The Rams are one of the most balanced teams in football right now, ranking inside the top 5 in both scoring offense and scoring defense. Tampa Bay, on the other hand, has been struggling to generate consistent offense and has been torched by explosive passing plays.

Key Stats & Trends:
• Rams: Top-3 scoring defense
• Rams: Top-5 scoring offense
• Tampa Bay: 1–9 ATS vs Rams in last 10
• Buccaneers bottom-five vs explosive passing

These teams are built in opposite directions. The Rams are surging with confidence, while the Bucs are struggling to find identity. Add in the matchup history — which has been brutally one-sided — and the Rams laying less than a touchdown becomes one of the cleanest ATS plays of the week.

This is our second-strongest pick on the board.

#1 – Detroit Lions -10.5 (Top Play of the Week)

And now we get to the play that truly stands above the rest.

When you talk about mismatches in the NFL, you’re usually talking about quarterback gaps, defensive rankings, or coaching edges. This game has all three pointing in the same direction — hard.

Key Stats & Trends:
• Giants: 0–10 straight-up on the road
• Giants: bottom-five in scoring defense
• Lions: top-tier home team two years running
• Lions offense top-5 in yards and scoring at home

This is one of those matchups where everything tilts toward Detroit. The Giants can’t move the ball consistently, can’t protect the passer, can’t get stops on third down, and can’t score in the red zone. That’s a dangerous combination when you walk into Ford Field — one of the loudest, fastest indoor environments in the league.

Detroit dominates inferior opponents at home. They don’t mess around. They put up points early and force you into a passing script you’re not built for.

This is the only play on the board that checks every box: matchup, trends, scheme, and talent.

Detroit -10.5 is our Top Play of the Week.
